STEP Lunchtime Lecture No 9 – Thalia El Chammah, Garm Consulting

Presentation Summary: Enhanced due diligence through human source intelligence is a key add on to compliance/ public-record based searches which are non-exhaustive. It is key for trusts, financial companies, lawyers and investors to fully understand subjects’ background through on-the-ground research which will provide context and a better understanding of how they are dealing with, prior to signing on a client, or investing in a business deal. Examples and case studies will be provided.
About the speaker:
Ms. Thalia El Chammah founded Garm Ltd on principles of excellence and is a specialist in in-depth business intelligence. As CEO, Ms. El Chammah consults with a diverse set of clients including private sector companies, financial institutions, governments and high-net-worth individuals. Her expertise and experience includes business risk management in EMEA and Russia/CIS countries.
Ms. El Chammah focuses on enhanced source-based investigations, risk-assessments and forensic services through her global network providing on-the-ground insights in the EMEA region.
Ms. El Chammah started her career in London at K2 Intelligence, a firm founded by Kroll founder, Jules Kroll. During her tenure, she conducted fraud and corruption investigations and carried out due diligence and asset tracing in the Gulf and MENA regions. Prior to founding Garm, Ms. El Chammah was a partner at another London based intelligence provider where she established the French and Middle-East practice and led the Africa team.
Ms. El Chammah received her M.A. in International Affairs from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques (Sciences Po) Paris, and Columbia University, New York. She holds a B.A. (First Class Honours) in European Studies from King’s College London.
