STEP Lunchtime Lecture No.08 – Managing the Risks of Superyacht Ownership
December 16 at 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Lunchtime Lecture No.08
Monday 16th December 2019 – 12pm
Topic: Managing the Risks of Superyacht Ownership
Speaker: Dan Armsden – AYM Consulting
During this lecture attendees will gain an understanding of the risk areas of yacht ownership that need to be considered and mitigated. Although more risks are associated with owning a commercial yacht, pleasure yachts still bring their own inherent risks. Incorrectly advised crew and managers can open up an expensive VAT liability on the hull by not fully understanding the limitations of the VAT structure the yacht may be operating within. Do you truly know the backgrounds of the crew who are employed to work and live onboard the yacht with other crew, guests and their children? There are ways to mitigate these risks which will be discussed during the presentation and followed by a short Q&A session.
Dan Armsden has an extensive background in the maritime industry, with time spent at sea and ashore, a BEng degree in Naval Architecture and 11 years at Sarnia Yachts Management Limited as a director and Head of Crew Services & Yacht Technical looking after some of the largest (and smallest) yachts in the world. Now self-employed, Dan has established a yacht management consulting business to support trust companies and family offices who wish to retain full control and communication with their client, but require greater in-house yachting expertise, as well as supporting existing and new yacht management companies with project work.
